On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, heaven gained another angel. Eugene Anthony Chubbuck passed away in his home in Salinas, CA. Eugene was born on June 14, 1931, in Athens, Pennsylvania. Eugene met his loving wife, Maureen (Slattery) Chubbuck; they were introduced by Monsignor Thomas Early at Sacred Heart Church through their Catholic faith. They fell in love and were married at Sacred Heart Church on January 13, 1962. They started building their future together, settling in Salinas, CA, where they were happily married for 61 beautiful years.
Eugene graduated from Athens High School in Athens, PA, and moved to Salinas, CA, in 1960. After his high school graduation, he lived in New York City for ten years. He worked on Wall Street and lived in Brooklyn during this time. Eugene moved out to California to be next to his brother. Eugene got a job working as an accountant at J.M. Smuckers in Salinas, CA, worked there for 32 years and retired in 1992.
Eugene Chubbuck survived by his daughter, Anne Therese O'Neil, of Monterey, CA and his son, John Anthony Chubbuck (wife, Karen Lynn Chubbuck) from East Garrison, CA and his grandchildren, Sarah Therese DiMaggio, Emma Lynn Chubbuck, Alyssa Lynn Chubbuck, Hannah Lynn Chubbuck, and his great-granddaughter, Riley Joe DiMaggio. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Maureen (Slattery) Chubbuck; parents, Florence and William Chubbuck; his sisters, Dorthy Roof and Pauline Sidey; his brother, William Chubbuck; and great-grandson, Joseph Anthony DiMaggio.
Eugene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and great grandfather but above all; he was a person who was kind and caring to all who knew him and was devoted to his faith and keeping the Lord front and center in his heart by reflecting those teachings into his everyday life.
He devoted his time to reading, learning, and devoting his time to educating himself on all aspects of his faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and achieved the highest honor of becoming a fourth-degree grand knight. He enjoyed antiquing with his beautiful wife and finding new treasures for their home. Along with his baking and bread-making hobby, he especially found joy in acquiring southwestern art to decorate his home. Yet what Eugene loved doing most of all was making plans with his loving wife Maureen and traveling to the beautiful, serene, lush green fields of the majestic Emerald Isle of Ireland. More than that, he valued the quality time spent with his family and was always very curious about getting to know them on a deeper level. While he is not present in the body, his spirit will forever shine upon us and remain in our hearts.
The Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at St Joseph's Church at 1 Railroad Ave, Spreckels, CA 93962.
