Eugene P. "Gene" Colpo, 80, of Burgettstown, Smith Township passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at St. Clair Hospital following a brief battle with cancer.
Gene was born on May 5, 1944, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Geno and Lena Giometti Colpo.
Mr. Colpo served his country as a member of the United States Army. He later was a train conductor for Conrail. He spent the majority of his career as a machinist at Union Electric Steel Corporation where he retired after 18 years. Mr. Colpo was also a member of St. Isadore the Farmer parish and the Burgettstown Italian Club.
Gene was known to many, especially his grandchildren, as someone who could fix anything. When Gene was in his workshop, he loved tinkering around and being creative. He took pride in his classic cars and the grass in the front of his house. Gene also loved playing bocce ball, visiting Rogers flea market, taking a long nap, and traveling with his wife and family.
Family was of the utmost importance to Gene. He was a caring husband, father and pappy. He dedicated his life to the betterment of his family; it was them above everyone else. Being a pappy was the role Gene was made for. His grandchildren were his world. Watching them grow and attending their activities were his biggest blessings. He was so proud of all of them.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Kunkle Colpo, children, Dr. Jennifer Colpo and Gina (Chris) Tarr, grandchildren, Eli, Anna and Samuel Tarr, sisters-in-law, Rita Colpo, Marcia Sartori and Therese Presutti, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his brother, John Colpo.
All attending visitation and Mass are asked to wear a mask if showing any symptoms of an illness or having any type of sickness.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc, 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at St. Isidore the Farmer Parish - St. Ann's Church, Bulger at Noon. A full military burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Highmark Caring Place or Wreaths Across America.
The family would like to express their thanks for the compassionate care of the staff on unit 5G at St. Clair Hospital especially Jenn and Vivian during Gene's illness.
