Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cargain Funeral Homes Inc. - Carmel on Oct. 1, 2025.
Gene was born in January 4, 1953 to Catherine (Tormey) and Henry Marbach.
He attended Baruch College in Manhattan, where he received a BA in English.
Gene began his career as a reporter with the Gallagher Report, a weekly newsletter for executives in marketing, advertising, and media. Following the Gallagher Report, Gene worked for Ketchum Public Relations, The Wall Street Group, John DeNigris & Associates and Makovsky & Co. Inc. as V.P. of Investor Relations. All were located in New York City. After he retired, he worked at Sam Ash Music in White Plains - it was a perfect retirement job for him.
Gene met Lynn on April 14,1970 in the Bronx. He was 18 and she was 16. Gene honored the day they met for the rest of his life. Every year, on April 14th, he left a card on the nightstand for Lynn to find. Gene lived in the Bronx while Lynn lived in Somers, NY and they had a long distance relationship until they married on June 19, 1976 at St. John the Evangelist Church in
Mahopac, NY. They lived in the Bronx for two years and then bought a house in Somers.
He loved his daughters Rachel Marbach (Azimi) and Sarah Johnson with his life. He has five grandchildren that were his reason for living: Violet Azimi, Charlie Azimi, Roxanne Azimi, Henry Johnson, and Benjamin Johnson.
Gene attended Affirmation Presbyterian Church in Somers for 30 years. He was a deacon. He derived a great deal of comfort and peace from this church community. He loved them all. He and several church members met monthly at George's for a men's breakfast that he truly enjoyed.
Gene was an avid blues guitar player and belonged to many bands in his lifetime. He was a big Eric Clapton fan. Gene loved old black & white movies and Humphrey Bogart was his favorite actor – he especially loved The Maltese Falcon.
Gene loved browsing in bookstores and guitar shops. He was also a WWII and Civil War history buff. He loved watching documentaries, movies and reading books about them - he had a huge interest.
Gene attended Planet Fitness in Somers religiously and had a group of gym friends he loved. They were supportive of each other and they were dear to his heart.
Gene was as loyal and devoted a person as there ever was. He would do anything for anyone in need. He never asked for anything in return.
