Eugene Marchal Jr., 94, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025. Born on May 22, 1930, in Hartford City, Indiana, he was the son of the late Eugene and Delma Marchal.
A man of quiet strength and generous spirit, Eugene dedicated 27 years of his life to Columbia Gas Transmission, where he took pride in his work and formed many lifelong friendships. He also worked as a skilled glass cutter at PPG. Eugene was a proud and active member of the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge #9, where he found camaraderie and purpose in service.
He was also the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, where he worshipped faithfully and built lasting relationships within his church family.
Eugene had a passion for golf, and he cherished every round he played. But above all, he will be remembered for his caring heart, unwavering devotion to his family, and his gentle way of making those around him feel loved and supported.
He is survived by a sister-in-law Fran Marchal, a brother-in-law Bob (Susie) Hendricks, his children: Tim (Linda) Marechal, Barb White, Bob (Charlotte) White, Marilyn (Deb Smith) Christopher, Steve White, Judy White, and Leslie (Troy) Boucher, his grandchIldren: Christopher Bastendorf, Chelsea Bastendorf, Aaron (Tina), Steve (Sarah), Ryan (Shiloh), Wesley White, Trent (Ciera Lomphoy) Christopher, Daphne (Raj) Diljit Kaur, Devin Christopher, Brooke (Jordan) Wheeler, Natalie (Trey) Freeman, Samantha Mercy, Haley (Michael) MacLean, Matthew (Kelsey) Boucher, Taylor Boucher, and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Dorothy Hendricks Marchal and Dorothy Beckley Marchal; his siblings Glen Marchal and Nina Workman; his daughter Leslie Bastendorf; and his parents.
He also loved and appreciated his dear caregivers Kim Eden and Cheryl Ivy, who along with his family, were with him to the very end. The family will always be thankful for how they cared for and treated him like their own father.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025-what would have been Eugene's 95th birthday-at Snyder Funeral Homes – Flowers Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Eugene's life was a blessing to all who knew him. His memory will be cherished always.

Gene was a great guy, very kind and always up for a good conversation. He was even kind when I would get his son Steve into some teenage mischief. He will be missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.

I am truly saddened to see this obituary... Growing up on Burgess Street and running around with all the neighborhood kids, I met Eugene and got to know him as we kids grew up... he was the last of the neighborhood "adults", and always friendly and helping and giving good advice. Rest in peace, and thank you for the memories.
