Eugene Owens, 89, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023 in Clearfield, Utah. He was born, December 13, 1933, in Panquitch, Utah to Ernest V and Sara Melinda Shakespear Owens. He was the youngest and the last surviving of his eight siblings and their spouses. He grew up in Panguitch where he helped on the family farm, where he raised and took care of his own small herd of sheep. He always enjoyed having a dog around. He graduated from Panguitch High School, where he set the record time for running the mile.
Eugene married Elva Marie Allen from Antimony, Utah on July 20, 1953. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple. They enjoyed 69 years together, starting their live together in Panquitch. He served two years in the US Army, stationed in Germany, doing small arms repair. Upon his return they moved to Northern Utah, eventually settling in Clearfield. He worked for the Carnation Company. They started their family and were blessed with three sons. Eugene hired on with the Federal Government, General Services Administration, working in Ogden and Clearfield. He worked a second part time job at Evans Grain Elevator for many years. They raised their sons to enjoy the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing.
Eugene loved the Panguitch area, “God’s Country” and spent as much time as he could there. He also wanted to return to God’s Country, so they purchased their burial plots so he could eventually return to Panquitch.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Elva, two of their sons, Roger Wayne (Karleene), Rex V, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his son Randy Gene, whom he missed dearly. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he enjoyed his fellowship.
