Eugene William Thompson

Eugene William Thompson, age 78, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Wilmington, NC. Born on March 31, 1947, in Beckley, WV, Eugene lived a life marked by service, love, and dedication to his family and community.

Eugene began his career in Wilmington as a firefighter, bravely serving the community and protecting others. He later transitioned to work as a dump truck driver for a local construction company, where his strong work ethic was evident to all who knew him.

A devoted family man, Eugene met his beloved wife, Marilyn Louise, when she was working as an ER nurse and he was driving an ambulance. Their love story blossomed, leading them to marry and settle in North Carolina, where they raised their family and shared 45 wonderful years together until Marilyn's passing.

Eugene had a deep affection for his church family at the 1st Advent Christian Church in Wilmington, where he was a cherished member. His faith and fellowship were integral parts of his life, bringing him joy and strength.

As a young man, Eugene achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a prestigious accomplishment that inspired his sons and nephew to follow in his footsteps, creating a proud family tradition.

Eugene is predeceased by his parents, James Clifton and Mary Frances Thompson; his sister, Carol Thompson; and his loving wife, Marilyn Louise Thompson. He is survived by his devoted sons, Eric and Mark Thompson; his nephew, Michael Thompson, and his children, Evan and Olivia; his niece, Kristin Mason; and his aunt, Frances Coiner. Eugene's legacy of love and kindness will continue through them.

A Memorial Service to honor Eugene's life will be held at the 1st Advent Christian Church, 1625 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
