Eugene "Gene" Wampler, born on November 23, 1935, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.   He was born in Virginia to parents Jarrett & Minnie Wampler and moved to Ohio when he was 7 months old.  Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his son Darrell, his son Dwayne, sisters Lois and Ilene and many other family members that he cherished dearly.   He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris.  Gene and Doris were married in 1955 and they created a beautiful family and wonderful memories together. He was a proud graduate of Big Walnut High School, class of 1955, and dedicated his professional life to Townley IGA, where he served as a meat cutter for an impressive 39 years.  Gene's commitment to his community truly showed as he coached little league baseball for many years and more recently was the dedicated Director of Big Walnut Friends Who Share.  He truly enjoyed helping others and giving back.  Gene was a man of many interests and had a love of music and found joy in woodworking, often creating pieces that reflected his craftsmanship and care. A proud member of Vans Valley Community Church, he embraced life with a humorous spirit, known for his witty remarks and quick comebacks that brought smiles to those around him.   He also had a passion for sports, being an avid supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes and Big Walnut athletics.

Gene, fondly known as "Papa", was a good father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, pouring love into his family and cherishing the moments spent with them.    Eugene's legacy is carried on by his loving son, Dale (Kara) Wampler, daughter in law, Cheryl Ann Wampler and his brother, Wendall Wampler of Florida.   Gene is also survived by his grandchildren Chris (Katie) Wampler, Chad (Megan) Wampler, (their mother Cheryl Wampler), Jessica Wampler (Andy Webber), Adam (Jennifer) Wampler, Jennifer (Matt) Hoskinson, Jarrett (Kari) Wampler, Kevin (Elyse) Wampler and his great grandchildren Kohen, Autumn, Evah, Lane, Ian, McKayla, Owen, Milo, Brody, Harper, Camryn and Jett.  He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were fortunate to know him as well as his close friends, Jimmy Irwin and George Justice.
