Eugenia "Genia" Kurtz, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the age of 55, surrounded by her beloved family and close friends at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
Genia grew up in the Okolona area and was a graduate of Southern High School. She was an enthusiastic fan of the University of Kentucky. Genia was a master of witty remarks and playful banter. The light of her life was her adored son, Tres. She was also a remarkable sister, aunt, coworker, and friend. Genia was the most selfless and thoughtful person. She was always the first to step in to help family/friends in need and would do anything for a child.
Genia is preceded in death by her father, Ernest Hogue, Sr., and her mother, Beverley Hogue, as well as many other cherished family members, close friends, and precious children that Genia loved dearly. She is survived by her son, Tres Kurtz; sisters, Debra Hobby (Jody), Connie Smith (David), Valerie Brown (Mark), and Annette Sears (Ernie); brother, Ernest Hogue, Jr.; sister-in-law, Rebecca Kurtz; and aunt, Nancy Halter. She also leaves behind nieces, Tiffany Deerborn, Brittany Sears (Jeremy), Tiffany Johnson (Charlie), Jessica Holthouser (Jordan), Jordan Smith (Melanie), Taylor Dole (Cameron), Alyssa Kinnison, Ashley Brown (Kristen), DJ Toogood; nephews, Zachary Smith (Kerstyn) and KJ Kinnison; and ex-husband, friend, and father of their child, John Kurtz. She is also survived by 5 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst-Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 12 p.m.- 8 p.m. and Monday, July 7, 2025 from 9 a.m.- 10 a.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Charlestown Cemetery.
