Eunice Pauline "Polly" Stewart Perry Owen, 96, wife of the late Mauldin "M.J." Owen, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at home with her loving family. Born in Clarksville, GA, she was a refined, sweet, and dignified "southern lady". Pauline was a beloved educator and dedicated community member. She graduated valedictorian at Pendleton High School, then later at North Greenville University, and attended classes at the University of South Carolina and Clemson University. She received her master's degree from Furman University, beginning her impressive career in education.

Polly devoted her life to shaping the minds of all ages, culminating in an esteemed career that spanned 38 years, mostly in elementary education within the Anderson School District, where she played a big part in the selection of textbooks. She also supervised student teachers for Erskine College, Winthrop College, and Clemson University, where she retired as a historian, educator, and public relations leader at the Hanover House and Calhoun Mansion.

An accomplished scholar, Polly earned multiple degrees from notable South Carolina colleges, reflecting her strong belief in the importance of learning. She was a proud member of the South Carolina, Anderson, and National Education Associations, showcasing her dedication to the profession. Throughout her career, she received numerous accolades, including several "Teacher of the Year" awards, a testament to her exceptional contribution to teaching.

Among her proudest achievements was establishing the first Head Start classes in South Carolina, providing countless children with access to quality education and resources at an early age. Polly's legacy is marked by her service on various education committees for the Anderson 5 District, where her insights and innovations helped shape educational policy and practices.

Polly was deeply committed to her faith and serving others. For over 85 years, she attended Calvary Baptist Church in Liberty, SC, and loved the people and the Pastors, where her influence extended beyond being a beloved member. She served as both secretary and treasurer and shared her knowledge and passion for learning by teaching Sunday School. Her unwavering strength and servitude profoundly shaped those around her and reflected her devotion to nurturing future generations.

Polly was a student of her Bible. She loved her cat, Education, and her dog, Caesar. She blessed many, giving of herself and her resources.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mae Perry, and Devereaux and Eunice Stewart; her sisters, Myra Perry Dorrity, Imagene Perry, and Evelyn Tyre; and her brothers, Stewart Perry, Truett Perry, and Dexter Stewart.

She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Dorrity, of the home, who was loved like a son, and many other beloved relatives in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Special thanks to Donna Vaight (Ranny) and Joy Tanner (Bernard) for your love and support.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Reflection, Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642. A funeral service will be held immediately after at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, with entombment to follow.

Her life’s work has left an indelible mark not only on the lives of her students but also on the broader community, inspiring future generations to pursue their goals with passion and determination. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her and were touched by her extraordinary contributions.
