Evan Thomas “Tom” Phillippo,79, of Athens passed away on July 20, 2024. Born on December 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Elias Vincenzo Phillippo and Nellie Lester Phillippo.
Tom’s grandfather migrated from Rome, Italy at the age of 9 beginning their family lineage here in the United States. Tom was born in St. Louis, Missouri and resided there until high school when his family moved to Ellington, Missouri. Upon graduating high school, he attended Southeast Missouri State University where he obtained his bachelor’s in chemistry. He worked as an analytical chemist for the FSIS-USDA up until his retirement in 2004.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Regina Gore.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Phillippo; children, Antonio Vincenzo Phillippo (Michelle Arivette), Bonnie Knowlton (Craig); grandchildren, Nickolas St. John Phillippo, Tylor Brents, Christopher Knowlton (Glendy), Thomas Knowlton, Elizabeth Knowlton; great grandchildren, Camilla Knowlton, Liam Knowlton; sister, Sheila Kelley.
A memorial service will be Sunday, August 11, at 3:00 at First Christian Church , 268 W. Dougherty street, Athens, GA. 30601. Please enter through the door at the parking lot and take elevator up to sanctuary. Please come prepared to share your favorite memories of Tom.
