Evan Sweeney Obituary
Evan Robert Sweeney, age 25 of Halfmoon, New York, passed away peacefully with his mom nestled against him on December 21, 2025, after losing his courageous battle against cancer.
Born August 30, 2000. Evan attended both Niskayuna Schools and Burnt Hills Ballston Lake Schools. He was an avid gamer and tech savvy from a young age. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the central nervous system at age 18. After being treated at St. Jude's Children's Hospital, he went on the graduate summa cum laude from the University at Albany with a degree in digital forensics. He spent the next 3 1/2 years working as a penetration tester for Leet Cybersecurity in Albany.
He loved cars his entire life and enjoyed modifying his Audi TTS and attending car meets with friends. Evan was diagnosed with a secondary cancer, likely radiation induced in April 2025. He remained hopeful, immeasurably strong, and never lost his sense of humor as he battled an extremely aggressive cancer for the second time.
Evan is survived by his loving parents, Jennifer Lomnes and Charles Sweeney, stepfather, AJ Lomnes, grandmother, Luanne Harvey, fiancé Kaylee Filippello, and a large extended family.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Evan's pediatric medical team from the Melodies Center at Albany Med, particularly Dr. Lauren Weintraub, for the unwavering support and compassionate care over the course of Evan's 7-year cancer journey.
His immediate family will have a private cremation ceremony.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 5:00 pm and conclude the gathering.
