Evelee "Evy" Chasteen

Evelee "Evy" Burnett Chasteen, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Pampa, Texas. Born on August 25, 1937, in Wilburton, Oklahoma, to Aldie and Fay Burnett, Evy led a life full of love, creativity, and resilience.
Evy attended school in Amarillo before marrying Franklin Mathews in 1955. Together, they had three children: Gary, Karen, and Linda. After Evy and Franklin's marriage dissolved, she married Elmer Ray Chasteen in 1964, instantly accepting his daughter, Ruth Ann, as one of her own then shortly afterwards, they welcomed their son, Aldie Ray Chasteen completing their family of seven. Later in life, she found companionship with Gary Pierson, with whom she shared many years until his passing.
A talented seamstress, Evy's artistic touch extended beyond fabrics to floral arrangements and various crafts. Her career took her across Oklahoma, Florida, California, and Texas, where she worked in housekeeping and the food service industry, but her heart always returned to sewing.
Known for her candid humor and loving nature, Evy was a cherished "Granny" to her grandchildren, who will forever remember her fondly. Her sweet spirit and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Evy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Franklin and Elmer; her life partner Gary; her son Aldie Ray; and siblings Patsy Ruth Chatagnier, Loretta Fay Waddle, Bethene Herfurth, Jovita Denton, and Rickie Kay Grounds. She was also predeceased by two grandchildren, Amy and Brandon Walker.
Her legacy lives on through her children: Gary Dale Mathews of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Karen Lane of Springfield, Missouri; Linda Thorn of Aguilar, Colorado; and Ruth Ann Walker of Mississippi. She leaves behind six grandchildren-Violet Eve, Tanya Ilene, Anthony Adam, Eric Michael, Michael Franklin, and Patrick Joseph-as well as 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
