Evelyn Flecker Obituary

She was born on May 2, 1932, in Muncie to Harold and Anna (McGary) Ault and has lived in the Gaston-Alexandria area all her lifetime. She attended Harrison Township and Alexandria schools.
She married the love of her life, James "Jim" Flecker on July 30, 1949, and they enjoyed 70 years together before Jim passed away in 2019. Evelyn worked in the office of Dr. Richard Shafer in the 1950's and 1960's. She went to work for her father at Ault's Ford Sales as a bookkeeper and for subsequent owners Carpenter Green Ford and Doug Bowmer Ford. Evelyn retired in 1981 after 20 years of employment. In retirement, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and volunteering at St. Mary's school. She also volunteered with Jim at the fish and chicken dinners held at the Knights of Columbus in Anderson. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church in Alexandria and the Daughters of Isabella. She and Jim enjoyed summers at Chapman Lake and winters in Florida. Spending time with and caring for her family was the focus of Evelyn's life and pleasure. Family dinners and caring for grandchildren were two pastimes that Evelyn loved. Together, she and Jim enjoyed many family camping trips, square dancing, going to horse races and fishing with family and friends. Evelyn was a gentle spirit; her warm and beautiful smile will be fondly remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years-Jim Flecker on January 23, 2019, daughter-Nancy Flecker, son-Rick Flecker, sisters-Helen Sollars, Betty Hickey, brothers-Bill Ault, Sonny Ault, Omer Ault, in-laws- Francis and Jean Flecker, Ralph Flecker
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am on Monday, November 25, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 802 West Madison Street, Alexandria. Father Christian DeCarlo will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 4 pm to 6:45 pm. A Rosary service will take place at 6:45 pm to close the visitation hours.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with envelopes available at the funeral home.
The Flecker family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Alexandria Health and Rehab and to Kathy from Keystone Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they gave to Evelyn.
