Evelyn Joan Hiehle, age 91, of Delaware, Ohio, passed away Sunday, November 9,
2025, at the Country View of Sunbury Nursing Center. Evelyn was born on April 17,
1934, in Poland, Ohio, to the late Robert J. Boyce, Sr. and Elsie M. Wiley Boyce. She
married Carl "Jack" Hiehle on November 10, 1959, and they shared twenty-five years of
marriage until his death in 1984.
Evelyn graduated from Alliance High School in 1952 and was one of 10 children in her
family. She worked at Cunningham and Pickett and then pursued her lifelong passion
as a ballroom dancing instructor at Arthur Murray in Canton. Through the years, she
joyfully taught friends and family how to dance, participated in dance exhibitions,
and won many competitions. Evelyn was also a "magical" seamstress, working many
years at various bridal stores, altering bridal gowns, and even making her own dance
competition dresses. Through it all, her greatest love was raising her children, and as her
husband used to call her, being "the rock" at home.
Known for her caring nature and big open heart, Evelyn was described as spunky,
vivacious, outgoing, charming, and sometimes ornery. She was known for welcoming
everyone into her life with open arms, and no one ever felt like a stranger. Her energy
was infectious; she could carry on a conversation with anyone, and you always knew
you were loved and welcome. Her gift was enjoying life and making sure those around
her did as well. She was affectionately called "Mom Hiehle" by many, including
numerous bandmates of her son Greg from The Ohio State University Marching Band.
As "mom," "grandma," and "Meeka," Evelyn was a devoted caregiver, particularly to her
grandchildren, playing a significant role in many of their lives.
Through the years, Evelyn enjoyed reading, dancing, listening to music, and leading
Children's Church, and she cherished being the social coordinator wherever she lived, as well as
working on family genealogy. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and an
active member of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She worked diligently, uncovering
the history that her family was some of the first settlers in Ohio, and was inducted into the First
Families of Ohio. In later years, Evelyn enjoyed socializing and participating in activities
at the Source Point Senior Center and the Westerville Senior Center.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Greg (Kathy) Hiehle of California, Mark (Anita)
Hiehle of Indiana, and Carla Poston of Delaware; her eleven grandchildren, Brandon
(Alanna) Hiehle, Anevay Hiehle, Jonathan (Chelsey) Hiehle, Timothy (Addrienne) Hiehle,
Jennifer (David) Mansur, Kaylin Hiehle, Kaleb Hiehle, Madelyn Poston, Emma Poston,
Patrick Woller and Ashley (Joseph) Malisiak; and her three great-grandchildren, Luca
Hiehle, and Rosie and Hattie Mansur. Also surviving are her three brothers, Jimmy,
Russell, and Frank Boyce, and her two sisters, Laura Sevin and Betty DeRoche, in
addition to innumerable nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her
brothers, Robert, Rodgers, and Donald Boyce, and her sister, Vera Karl.
Evelyn's celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at
The Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Pastor Kevin Hover
of Lifepoint Church, Delaware, will officiate. Friends may visit the family at the Snyder
Funeral Center on Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be
private for the family the following day.
