Evelyn Bernice (Hintz) Kurpgeweit passed away on October 17, 2025, at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk, surrounded with love.
Evelyn was born on December 13, 1931, in Madison, Nebraska, to William and Anna (Gutzman) Hintz. She attended Madison High School and grew up with a strong appreciation for family, faith, and community. On June 6, 1948, she married the love of her life, Billie Dean Kurpgeweit, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three children: Peggy, Ted, and Joyce.
Evelyn held many roles throughout her life, each reflecting her caring nature and strong work ethic. She took great pride in being a stay-at-home mom and a dedicated farmer's wife, always ensuring that her home was filled with warmth, love, and a sense of welcome. Later, Evelyn worked at Flowerama in Norfolk, where she discovered her gift and love for flowers and plants. Inspired by that joy, she opened her own flower shop in Columbus, Nebraska, Country Style Floral, where she shared her creativity and kindness with her community. Evelyn also treasured her time working as head librarian at Madison Public Library, where she found delight in helping others and sharing the love of reading.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, where her faith gave her comfort, purpose, and joy. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Whether laughing around the kitchen table, tending to flowers, visiting with others, or being present at family gatherings, Evelyn created a sense of home wherever she went. She had a gentle, loving spirit that made everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy (William) Curry of Lincoln NE and Joyce (Jim) Gamble of Omaha NE; daughter-in-law, Renee Kurpgeweit of O'Neill NE; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Kurpgeweit; her parents, William and Anna Hintz; her son, Ted Kurpgeweit; five brothers; two sisters; one granddaughter, Billie Jo; and one great-grandson, Christopher.
Evelyn will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her deep love for her family, and her warm, welcoming presence. The legacy of her love continues in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska.
