Evelyn Jean Poe.. "Jeannie", ascended to heaven on 8/31/25. She put up a valiant fight, but the cancer had progressed, and God took her home.
We will dearly miss our sweet and kindhearted mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Jeannie was a lifelong resident of Boone County. Born October 9th, 1948, in her grandmother's home near McBaine, to James Ralph Poe and Christine Weldon.
Jeannie was a great cook and had a talent for art. She loved life, people, nature, and animals. She always owned a dog or dogs throughout her life. Her last dog, Alli, an Australian Shepherd, was her love and protector. Alli is being raised by Jeannie's dear friends, John and Chris.
She was always up for getting together with family or friends to enjoy a cookout, music, festivals, plays, movies, shopping, or just hanging out. She was very generous, and would help anyone in need.
Jeannie was athletic and enjoyed sports. She was a great 3rd baseman. Even winning a Class A Championship through Parks and Rec. She enjoyed playing with multiple teams at Twin Oaks, and Rainbow Softball Fields in Columbia.
Jeannie attended Bethel Baptist Church and was baptized around 1986 in Cedar Lake of Columbia.
She is survived by her children, Jason (Ginger) Gibson, and Christie (Joe) Smith; grandchildren, Gwyneth Gibson, Addie Gibson, Emery Gibson, JoAnna (Matthew) Tynan, Joelyn Smith, Jodi Smith, and a great grandson; two sisters, Kathi (Miguel) Rios, Debbie Poe, and a brother Mike (Vernethia) Poe; several nieces and nephew, and a loving extended family.
We will have a celebration of her life on 9/14/25, at Stephens Park in the Gordon Shelter, beginning at 2:00 pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory, 12 E. Ash St.; Columbia, Missouri 65203. (573) 449-4153. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.milardfamilychapels.com
