Darrell Brauner Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Darrell Glenn Brauner, 69, of Holts Summit, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 6, 2025.
He was born on September 2, 1956, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Walter and Loretta (Distler) Brauner.
Darrell graduated from California R-1 School District in 1974 and went on to earn his associate degree from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri, in 1976. On February 24, 1979, he was united in marriage to Pamela Gene Hiatte in Cedar City, Missouri.
He began his career working for J.C. Penney in Jefferson City before joining the State of Missouri, where he spent many years working in corporate taxation. Darrell was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and heart for helping others. He volunteered for years at the Holts Summit Soup Kitchen and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Darrell loved spending time with his family, especially around a good card table. Whether it was Hand and Foot, Pinochle, or Uno, he was always ready to play. The family swore he cheated; it was considered part of his signature game style. After all, in the Brauner house, the rules depended on the day-and who was winning. His wife's first cousins, Claudia, Linda, and Patty, were like additional siblings to him who he loved to aggravate every chance he got. The girls soon nicknamed him "Turkey" and gifted him a turkey planter to make sure the name stuck. Sundays were especially meaningful to him; even after his mother moved into a nursing home, Darrell and family would spend the day playing cards with her or making sure she was part of the fun.
Above all, Darrell adored his granddaughters. They were his greatest joy, and he took pride in every moment he shared with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pamela G. Brauner; two daughters, Michelle Brauner (David) and Ashley Woodruff (Devon); one brother, Stanley Brauner (Pamela S.); three sisters, Sally Hager, Lori Monsees (Kari), and Donna Anderson (David); sister-in-law, Pamela A. Brauner; three granddaughters, Autumn Woodruff, Aliyah Edwards, and Brooklynn Woodruff; step-grandchildren, Ben and Brennan Edwards, nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and his special buddy, Mike Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Loretta Brauner, and two brothers, Mark and Timothy Brauner.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Holts Summit Soup Kitchen.
Friends and family will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Holts Summit. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, officiated by Very Rev. Chris Cordes.
Interment will follow at St. Andrew Parish Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St.; Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
