It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Patricia Ruth (Schrimpf) Zalken, on September 5 at the age of 92. While we are heartbroken by the loss, we take comfort in knowing that she has reunited in heaven with family and friends.
Patricia was born January 6, 1933, in Jefferson City to Harold Schrimpf and Stella (Prenger) Schrimpf.
She was a 1951 graduate of St. Peters Catholic High School in Jefferson City, Missouri. As a child and a young adult Patricia was huge comfort to her mother, older sister and baby brother when at the age of 7 she lost her father in an auto accident.
She was married in 1954, at Immaculate Conception Church, Jefferson City, Missouri to John C. DeBrine who preceded her in death on September 4, 1976. Shortly before John's passing, they purchased the farm that has been in the DeBrine family since the late 1800's.
She was married on December 28, 1979, at St Francis Xavier Church, Taos, Missouri to Byron M. Zalken who preceded her in death on September 14, 2017.
Patricia worked for Missouri State Library, and then she started her career with the 3M Company. Byron and Patricia purchased the Jefferson City location that was renamed to ZBM. In 1989 the business built a new building and moved to Eastland drive. During her business years she traveled with Byron to many Dealer Conventions destinations meeting and making lifelong relationships.
They owned ZBM until they retired and sold the business.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Jefferson City, Missouri. She was a charter member of the Immaculata Club. She was also a member of the Immaculate Salve Mata Group, IC Circle, Perpetual Salvator and later the Mother Seton widows group. She volunteered at the Samaritan Center and for the IC funeral luncheons.
During Patricia's retirement years she enjoyed "coffee" time with friends after weekly Mass. She went on numerous day trips with her dear friends traveling to boutiques, shops, restaurants and wineries. She especially enjoyed her trip with friends to Medjugorje. She also enjoyed traveling with Byron to many states including Hawaii, California, Colorado, The Gulf Coast, and East Coast, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, and Vienna. She also made time to spend with her grandchildren and had many wonderful adventures near and far.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri (Gary) Ferguson, Jana (Charles) Amsbaugh, one son Daniel DeBrine; seven grandchildren, Kellen (Georgia) Ferguson, Marcus Ferguson, Aubrey (Robert) Snyder, Colton (Abby) Ferguson, Diana (Phillip) Rutledge, Jonathan DeBrine, Joseph DeBrine, one step-granddaughter Hannah (Jonathan) Zalken; her beloved great grandson and "snuggle buddy", Arlo Snyder; and her sisters-in-law, Mert (Henry) McMichael and Ethel Schrimpf
