RICHMOND, Ind. - Everett J. McDivitt, age 86, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.Born November 30, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, to Emmet and Mary Parks McDivitt, Everett was a life-long resident of this area. He was a graduate of Jackson High School in Preble County, Ohio, and was an active member of the Jackson High School Alumni Association. Everett married Melba K. Doles McDivitt, on June 7, 1959, at New Hope Methodist Church in Preble County. They raised their family on The Round Barn Farm in Fayette County, Indiana and later resided on their farm south of Richmond for the last 25 years. Everett was the sixth generation McDivitt to farm in this area. He farmed with his family most of his life, helping his youngest son, Matt, farm south of Richmond over the last 25 years. Everett was a former board member of the Fayette County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, mushroom hunting, attending grandchildrens activities and helping them with 4-H projects. Everett played basketball in high school, and he continued his love of sports watching his grandchildren play. He played euchre and belonged to a euchre club for over 40 years. Everett enjoyed deep friendships with his neighbors and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Pete Rose.He is survived by his four children; Joe (Cathy) McDivitt of Connersville, Indiana, Cora McDivitt Binder of Lebanon, Ohio, Monty McDivitt of Laguna Niguel, California, and Matt (Kristy) McDivitt of Richmond, Indiana; grandchildren, April McDivitt (Ed) Schilling, Eric Binder, Amanda Binder (Andrew) Coots, Mandy McDivitt (Andy) Eliason, Deidra Binder, Dakota McDivitt, and Carson McDivitt; seven great-grandchildren, Ava Schilling, Callie Schilling, Ace Eliason, Adalyn Coots, Emmy Eliason, Henley Coots, and Ivy Eliason; four siblings; Virgil McDivitt of Fountain City, IN, Ruth Ann Loy of Greenville, OH, Paul (Betty) McDivitt of Glenwood, IN, and Ruby Hackenbracht of Medina, OH; nieces; nephews; and many friends.He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Melba K. McDivitt, on August 10, 2022; parents; siblings, Ellsworth McDivitt, Kenneth McDivitt, Cecil McDivitt, Esther Dearth, Hazel Dafler, Lester McDivitt, Eugene McDivitt, Mary Lou Cavins, Mabel Sandlin, Barbara Shelley, and Keith McDivitt; several cousins; nieces; and nephews.Visitation for Everett J. McDivitt will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Dave Daniels officiating.
