Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tim Stewart Funeral Home - Lawrenceville from Jul. 29 to Jul. 30, 2025.
Everett Leroy Samples was born June 27, 1929, to Charles E. Samples and Elsie (James) Samples in the Sugar Hill Community of Gwinnett County and entered into eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, July 23, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was the youngest child of twelve. The Samples family operated a small farm in the Sugar Hill area and all the children worked on the farm during their childhood and adolescent years. Everett graduated from Dacula High School in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Sibyl (Lovin) Samples when she was 19 and he was 22. He spent the next 73 years at her side. He is proceeded in death by his wife Sibyl Lovin Samples, his parents Charles and Elsie Samples, his brothers Tuney, Jack, Charles, Clifton "Dude", John "JL", and Theron and his sisters Ruby Turner, Ruth Moulder, Rhoda Sawyer, Avis Walls and one great granddaughter, McKayla Samples. He is survived by his three children Terry (Sheryl) Samples, Colonel Phil (Diana) Samples and Sherry Lancaster, seven grandchildren Bebe (Jason) Rogers, Caleb (Katelyn) Samples, Marie Bauch, Phil (Marjorie) Samples, Jr., Carolyn (Joe) Daviss, Blake (Chancey) Lancaster, and Chase (Sarina) Lancaster, and 13 great grandchildren. Everett served his country in the Army during the Korean War era and was a diesel engine/track mechanic and later military police (MP). Everett and Sibyl were married while he was still in the Army and were stationed at Aberdene, MD. Everett was an avid sportsman playing basketball in high school and coaching Little League Baseball for Terry and Phil for years. He loved to watch Sherry play basketball and later watch grandchildren play baseball and basketball. He was also an avid bird hunter and loved training his bird dogs, it was truly one of his passions, gifts, and callings. He, his brothers, nephews (Terry Stephens, Ray and Duane Clark, Jerry, David and CT Samples, Phil Tanner, Frank Deaton and Truman Phillips) and Terry and Phil quail hunted all over Gwinnett, Walton, Monroe, and Barrow Counties along with several locations in South Georgia. The only thing that would stop him from hunting was seeing a poisonous snake and that usually ended the day's hunt! Everett had several jobs while growing up including farming, driving a taxi in Lawrenceville, working in a sawmill, driving a wreaker, and working in a dry-cleaning business (for his sister Avis and her family). Everett worked the majority of his years at General Motors and Kraft Foods. He carpooled every morning, starting at 4:30, to Kraft Foods with JD Kerlin, Stanley Gunter, and Grady Hogan. After retirement from Kraft, he operated a lawn service in Lawrenceville for another 15 years. After working for more than 60 years, he finally retired/retired in 2006. Sibyl and Everett enjoyed traveling in their early retirement with a group of seniors from their beloved First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. Their travels took them from east coast to west coast and north into Canada and it was always a treat to hear the stories of laughter and fellowship they would share after every trip. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and later his great grandchildren. We wish to thank the Care Team that cared for both Mom and Dad in the last two years; Angela Bryan, Fancittie Johnson, Natalee Bonnick and the Spirit Hospice Team with special thanks to nurse Ashley Harrington. Your love for making their wish to stay in their home come true was a blessing for the entire family and we thank you. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on August 17, 2025, in the Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
