Everett "Jack" Youngquist, 84, of Aledo, IL, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, IA. Jack was born Monday, May 20, 1940, in Moline, IL, the son of Everett John and Rita Sharrar Youngquist. He married Margery "Penny" Adams on Friday, October 23, 1964, in Moline, IL. Jack's life was a canvas of creativity and service, painted with the vibrant colors of his many talents and passions.
Jack's journey began as a young man in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division, where he served his country with pride from 1958 to 1962. His time in the military took him to France, where he honed his meticulous skills as a parachute packer, ensuring the safety of his fellow servicemen. After his honorable discharge, Jack returned to civilian life, bringing with him the discipline and camaraderie that would define his community involvement for years to come.
Back home, Jack's hands were rarely still, as he channeled his boundless energy into his work as a house painter, blacksmith, horse trainer and artist. His reputation as a local artist grew, with each brushstroke and chisel strike revealing the depth of his creative spirit. Jack's artistry was not confined to painting or wood; it was woven into the fabric of his everyday life, from the stories he told to the lessons he imparted to his children and grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his loving sons, David (Fay) Youngquist of Fircrest, WA, Eric (Karin) Youngquist of Wilmington, NC, and Forest (Krystal) Ballinger of Tampa, FL. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, with another on the way. Jack's sisters, Bonnie McKnight of Coal Valley, IL, and Nancy Denkin of Sonoma, CA, will hold dear the memories of their beloved brother. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Margery "Penny" Youngquist, with whom he now rests.
Beyond his family, Jack's influence reached into the heart of his community. As a past member of the American Legion and a dedicated Boy Scout Leader, he shaped the lives of many young individuals with his wisdom and example. Jack's commitment to nurturing the next generation was evident in the way he lived his life-full of purpose and a touch of whimsy.
Those who knew Jack will remember him as a man of many talents-creative, handy, and always ready to lend a helping hand. In his early days, Jack had a great love of cars, modifying motors for hot rods and drag racing. He could identify every make, model and year of cars from the 1930's to the 1970's. Later his interests in painting, wood carving, and blacksmithing were not mere hobbies but passions that he pursued with fervor and joy. Jack's love for art was infectious, inspiring those around him to appreciate the beauty in the world and in themselves.
As we bid farewell to Everett "Jack" Youngquist, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched many others in profound and lasting ways. His was a life that exemplified the virtues of hard work, creativity, and love - a tapestry of experiences that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jack's story does not end here; it lives on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and in the countless lives he enriched. Though he has left this earthly realm, the echoes of his laughter, his presence, and the strokes of his artistry remain indelibly imprinted on the world he has left behind. Rest in peace, Jack, and thank you for the beauty you've shared with us all.
