Everette was born in Madison County to the late Love Everette "LE" and Hattie Freeman Ponder but he was raised in Buncombe County when his family settled in Leicester in 1944. He graduated from Leicester High School but would tell you that he got most of his education after school. Everette was a farmer, junker, and a community man. He always tried to do everything he could for anyone who needed it, whether it was something he had lying around in his junk collection that they could use, some friendly advice, or just someone to sit and talk with, you could always count on him.
He is survived by his son, Everette Ponder Jr. (Kim), his daughter, Sonia Worley (Tim), and the light of his life, his three grandchildren, Emma Ponder, Tucker Worley, and Nate Worley. He also had too many adopted sons and daughters and friends to mention, but he loved them all dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Hipps officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do an act of kindness for a relative, friend or neighbor, as Everette believed in doing for everyone, or you are welcome to make a donation to the Turkey Creek Cemetery Fund: 2206 Bear Creek Rd. Leicester, NC 28748.

I spent 12 years as a classmate of Everette. I can remember he was constantly optimistic and cheerful. The last time I saw him was at our final class reunion at the Leicester Community Center. He seemed to be the same as always, never a frown or discouraging word.
