Fabienne Valerie Germain-Balan was born on August 5, 1988, in Brooklyn, New York, to Raymond Germain and the late Marie Claudette Glaudin. At the age of two, her family moved to New Jersey, where she was raised. She was the eldest of six siblings and played a motherly role in the family, known for her quiet strength, deep intelligence, and compassionate heart. Growing up, Fabienne was a calm and reserved child, yet deeply loved by all. She naturally became the family's anchor - the unappointed secretary and dependable problem solver - always keeping everyone connected, grounded, and loved.
During her time at Columbia High School, she found joy in basketball and music, singing with the Gospel Choir. Her voice was her favorite instrument and became a gift she shared generously, especially within her church community over the years. She served faithfully as a worship team member and leader, musician, and behind the scenes in sound and media - never seeking the spotlight, just showing up with purpose and praise. Fabienne also had a deep love for children and a passion for education. She served for many years as a camp counselor and leader, was a sitter for 9 years to a cherished family, and worked as a preschool teacher, always nurturing the next generation with kindness and care.
Above all, her greatest joy and calling was being a mother and wife. She married her boyfriend of 13 years, Herby Balan, on August 1st, 2019, and spent 6 wonderful years with him. She then devoted her life to raising her two sons with grace and selflessness, even stepping away from her career to focus on them. When cancer entered her life, Fabienne faced it with courage, strength, and unwavering faith. Her spirit remained unshaken, bringing comfort and inspiration to everyone around her even in her last moments. On July 30th, at 36 years old, Fabienne was called home to be with her Heavenly Father.
She is survived by her husband, Herby Balan, her sons, Brian and Roman Balan, her parents, Raymond and Elcie Germain, her five siblings, Esther, Rachelle, Reginald, Alicia Germain and James Edouazin, her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Balan, Christina, Emmanuel, Nadege and Fabiola Balan. Along with her immediate family, she is also survived by much extended family: the Glaudin Family, Giraud Family, Edouazin Family, Chery Family, Darius Family, Bolivar Family, Narcisse Family, Ovil Family, Michel Family, Noel-Francois Family, Galatis Family, and finally numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends that showed Fabienne so much love and support. Fabienne lived with purpose, loved deeply, and served faithfully. Her legacy is one of compassion, commitment, and grace - and though we mourn her absence, we are forever grateful for the life she lived and the love she gave so freely.
