FaDell C. Challoner (85) passed quietly on June 26, 2025, at Cranberry Court Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids, Wl with his children gathered around him.
FaDell was the twelfth child to Frank C. Challoner with his second wife, Blanche Ossie (West) Challoner. He was born on January 9, 1940, in Big Flats, Adams, Wl. Prior to May 1940, the Challoner family moved to a farm in Hancock, Wl. Their new home had no indoor plumbing, used wood stoves for heat, and had an outhouse. FaDells' parents, having survived the depression, raised him to value hard work and appreciate the simple things in life. FaDell had hopes of becoming a farmer too in his early years; however, due to a severe car accident that left him physically damaged and in pain for the remainder of his life, he was unable to fulfil that dream. He did, like many of his siblings, grow a fabulous garden for many years. FaDell teamed up with his big brother, Stanley, and drove semi for him hauling pulp to the mills in Nekoosa and Wisconsin Rapids, Wl. FaDell loved working for Stanley (Challoner Logging, Inc.) and alongside his brother Sofus who operated the skidder. When Stanley passed, FaDell took it really hard. FaDell continued to drive semi hauling pulp until he retired.
On June 2, 1962, FaDell married JoAnn Walker in Hancock, Wl. Together they shared hardships and happiness for almost 60 years producing four children, Cindy Robbins-Challoner (Gerald Schneider), Phillip (Diane) Challoner, Frank Challoner, and Mary Ann (Challoner) (Ryan) Ludwig; ten grandchildren, Crystal (Robbins) Bisson, Kyle Robbins, Megan Challoner, Shannon (Fike) Andres, Tiffany Challoner, William Challoner, Ashlie Challoner, Patricia (Challoner) Sibiski, Miles Duerr, and Cody Duerr; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Fadells' life was greatly influenced by Mr. Ray Williams who taught him and his brother, Sofus, how to shoot trap. Until FaDell took his last breath, he loved shooting trap more than doing anything else (including baseball). Trapshooting was the one thing he felt he was really good at doing and he loved sharing his memories and experiences with anyone who would listen. His children would later take up the sport and excel as well.
FaDell was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Wallace R. Challoner, Ethel F. (Challoner) Utech, Mildren E. (Challoner) Sturtz, Delos Challoner, Sylvia (Challoner) Carlson, Stanley Challoner, Byron Challoner, Sofus Challoner, Eugene Challoner, and Cloice Challoner; and grandson, Miles Duerr.
FaDell leaves behind his children; brother, LaVerne Challoner; sister, Blanche (Challoner) Eads; nieces, nephews, and continued generations of great and great-grandchildren.
There will be no Celebration of Life. FaDell wishes for a gravesite service with his niece Alice Banks officiating and to be held August 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Hancock Cemetery.
FaDell would like to give a final farewell and thank you to all the people who came into his life. You all helped him through good and bad times, and he was eternally thankful.
