Farris Westley Poole, age 88, passed away on February 5th, 2025. Farris was a remarkable man that served not only his family but our beloved country as well. He dedicated twenty years of his life to the United States Navy, where he achieved so much. Farris enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country and to make an impact on others lives. He served in The Vietnam War. Farris received extensive education and training in the navy where he became a highly skilled medical assistant, medical administrative technician, hospital corpsman, pharmacy & toxicology specialist, and specialist in combat & field medicine. When on shore duty, Farris worked at a local hospital where he was a very well diverse and skilled helping hand with anything that was needed. While serving in Vietnam, Farris was wounded and continued to work for a period without even knowing that he was the one who was wounded. He was busy helping to care for other military members and seeing to it that they came first, he never once noticed that it was himself that was wounded. It was not until someone pointed it out to him. Farris was awarded two Purple Hearts, Combat Action Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal twice, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his time in the Navy, he worked as a letter carrier for The United Stated Postal Service for twenty-one years.
Farriss home life was just as extraordinary as his naval career. He met his wonderful and loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn, when they were just teenagers. Carolyn knew that Farris was going to be the love of her life, and he never waivered or failed to put Carolyn and their family they created first in his life. They became the parents of three girls followed by three boys. Farris spent his time as their father continuing to be a leader in many ways. He was a proud member of Boy Scouts Troop 343 and served as a Scout Master for the troop for a period. He loved everything about the outdoors and how sharing that special time with his family brought them that much closer together. From their time spent hiking at Shiloh, going to the zoo, Pink Palace, Disney, no matter where they went, they did it as a family. Farris was a devoted grandfather that adored his grandchildren. Spending time with them added even more cherished memories. During his down time in his later years, Farris enjoyed woodworking and crafting many wood projects. Farris is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Roberta Poole, one brother, Darrell Poole, one sister Betty Costello, and one grandson, Michael Lopez. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Blackmon Poole, three daughters; Deborah Poole, Beth Morris (Mike), and Barbara Lopez, three sons; Wes Poole, Timothy Poole, and David Poole, five grandchildren; Erin Lopez Williams (Christopher), Kristina Lopez, Grace Lopez, Alexander Poole, Kaitlynn Poole, and three nephews; Darrell Poole, Jr, Wesley Poole, and Mark Poole.
