Father Stokes Jerome Smith, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the age of 72. He was born in Spartanburg on August 26, 1952 to Elisabeth Allen Smith and the late Stokes Jerome Smith, Sr.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Stokes served his country with honor for 30 years, both as Active Duty and in the Reserves. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Psychology from Winthrop University and went on to be a therapist with Spartanburg Regional Hospital for 19 years. Stokes was ordained in 2001 and served as Priest for several Anglican Churches in the area, most recently St. George the Martyr Anglican Church. He was also a volunteer with Croft State Park and an amateur radio licensee.
He is survived by his mother, sister, Christy Rous (husband, Chris), and sons, Stokes Jerome Smith III, Keisler Allen Smith (partner, Sydney Valenzuela), and Michael Riley Jerome Smith, and his numerous quasi-adopted children (you know who you are).
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM, at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Rd. Roebuck, SC 29376. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 2nd, 2024 9AM at St. Francis Anglican Church, 601 Webber Rd. Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Father Paul Rivard and Father James Gadomski. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
