Faye Douglas Chewning

Mrs. Faye Douglas Chewning, age 94, entered into rest on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Novant Hospital Huntersville, surrounded by her family. Faye was born on September 5, 1930, in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of the late Orland Harris and Beulah Waddell Douglas. In 1957, she married Vance Chewning and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 6, 2011. Faye worked at Bank of America for many years. She was also a dedicated mother and grandmother to her family, including her church family at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. A longtime parishioner there, she was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women as well as the Prime Timers. Faye was preceded in death by husband Vance C. Chewning as well as her sisters, Mary D. Purvis, Lurline D. Jacobs, Azalee D. Clanton, Evelyn D. Griggs, and Garrett D. Rivers; and brother, Lawton P. Douglas. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Ann Chewning of Belmont, Jennifer Chewning Hensley of Stanley, and grandson Zachary Alexander Hensley. A Celebration of Life Service led by Pastor Suzanne Dornsmith will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park a later date.
