Our dad, Felipe Armando Flores, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024. There aren’t

enough words to capture the incredible man he was or the lessons he passed on to us. He

taught us through joy, loss, and love. He taught us to be generous, hardworking, and fiercely

loyal to family.

As he neared the end of his life, his home was filled with family and friends touched by his

generosity and guidance. We laughed, cried, and shared stories. Stories about his boxing days,

his life as a preacher, the mentor who helped shape lives, and the craftsman whose hands

assembled so much more than tile.

Dad was born on April 17, 1938, in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico. He was the eldest son of

Santiago Flores and Maria Felipa Tristan and brother to Santiago, Maria Pilar, Josephina, and

Concepción. He carried his role as the eldest son with pride and love. He adored his siblings,

and not a day passed without him sharing how much he loved and missed his parents and

siblings who departed this world before him.

Dad was the definition of self-made. For over 50 years, he was a master ceramic tile craftsman.

His work is etched into homes, restaurants, and landmarks across Texas, including the iconic

Pappas restaurants. But it wasn’t just the work that mattered; it was the people. Dad took

anyone willing to learn under his wing, teaching the trade and sharing his passion.

On July 16, 1960, Dad married our Mom, Maria Teresa Sustaita, the love of his life. Their story

started as classmates at Our Lady of Guadalupe School. As children, we were told he jumped

off the Bayou Bridge to impress her. Did it happen? Who knows. But we’ll always cherish it to

symbolize their beautiful love. Together, they raised seven children: Felipe, Patricia, Andrew,

Arthur, Florence, Jerome, and Rita.

Mom left us too soon, but her spirit stayed alive in the lessons she and Dad gave us: love

deeply, work hard, and give generously. Their legacy has grown through 11 grandchildren and

nine great-grandchildren, including the newest baby born on the day Dad passed away.

In 1988, Dad found love again with Gloria, and together, they raised their beloved son, Jorge.

Their life together was filled with laughter, love, and adventure. They traveled to places like

Mexico City, Rome, and Guatemala, and you could often hear Gloria’s laughter ringing through

their home, sparked by Dad’s playful spirit.

Dad lived an incredible 86 years, and his life can’t be summed up in words. It’s in his craft, the

laughter he sparked, and the love he shared so generously. Honor him by carrying those

lessons forward in your own life.

Felipe Armando Flores

17 de abril de 1938 – 19 de diciembre de 2024

Nuestro papá, Felipe Armando Flores, falleció en paz Diciembre 19 2024. El fue un

hombre increible.

Juntos, criaron siete hijos:

Felipe, Patricia, Andrew, Arthur, Florence, Jerome y Rita.

vidas.
