Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rhodes Funeral Home - Washington Avenue on Mar. 31, 2026.
God called his angel Felton Eugene Morris, Sr., home from earth to his eternal home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, after being on this earth for 77 years. Felton entered this world on Saturday, February 26, 1949, in Belle Alliance, Louisiana, to Versie Morris, Sr., and Enola Mitchell Morris, and was raised in
New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of five children born to this union (Versie, Jr., Felton, Ralph, Glenda, and Vanessa). He also had an older half-brother, Ronald C. Morris, Sr. Felton accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior of his life at an early age. In 1963, the late Rev. William Gaines, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church, baptized him. Felton was a proud 1967 graduate of Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. During his high school days, he worked at his parents' family business "Morris Grocery" every Sunday with his oldest brother Versie Jr. Parents would drop off their daughters at the neighborhood churches for Sunday School, unbeknownst to the parents of both the girls and the Morris boys, the girls would skip Sunday School to attend what was known by the girls as the "Morris Grocery Party Store." They would hang out at the store with Versie and Felton until it was time to attend church. Felton was formerly married to the late Beverly Green, and this union blessed them with a son, Felton Eugene Morris Jr., and a daughter, Troy Lynn Morris Cossé. He held various jobs before deciding to follow the career path similar to his father, as a merchant seaman, traveling all over the world for many years. Felton was employed at the Lykes Bros. Steamship Company Inc. and was a member of the Seafarers International Union (SIU) Hall for merchant seamen while working. He grew up in the Uptown area of
New Orleans, Louisiana, and was affectionately known to his family and friends as 'Felt,' 'the La-La Man,' and 'Pops.' He enjoyed watching television shows, such as Westerns, courtroom dramas, Perry Mason, NCIS, and Sanford and Son. He loved listening to jazz, blues, and R&B. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, where he could always be found making everyone laugh and talking a lot of trash. His favorite foods and meals were red beans and rice, gumbo, chitterlings, BBQ ribs, seafood, meatballs with spaghetti, and fresh mustard greens. Left to cherish his legacy in life's book of memories are son Felton Eugene Morris Jr. of Gonzales, LA; daughter Troy Lynn Morris Cossé of Katy, TX; two grandchildren, Aaron and Alexis Cossé of Katy, TX; two brothers, Versie Morris Sr. (Mary) and Ralph Morris Sr. (Pamela S.); two sisters, Glenda M. Foley and Vanessa Morris; an uncle and godfather, Charles Mitchell of Donaldsonville, LA; five nephews, Tyrone Morris (Tammy), Ronald Morris Jr. (Regina), Jermaine Morris of Katy, Texas, Ralph Morris, Jr. and Randall Morris (Faith) of Chino, CA; two nieces, Tamiqua Foley-June and Shara Wells of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, Alexander Green, Jr., a devoted friend/brother Gregory Hyde, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eli and Annie Lee Morris; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Sadie Oliver Mitchell; parents, Versie Morris Sr. and Enola Mitchell Morris; half-brother, Ronald C. Morris Sr.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mosley Morris; and other extended relatives. Felton is now resting in peace, sustained by his constant faith in the redemptive love of the Lord Jesus Christ. His legacy will live on, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
