Ms. Florence Annette Fleming (AKA Granny / Nanal ) passed away on 5 May 2025 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
Her Homecoming Service and Internment will be held at 2:30 PM, 30 May 2025 at
Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus Ohio 43202. (614) 267-5471
Ms. Flo was a force in nature and a Mature Advisor to all. She was intelligent, witty and starkly independent. She loved life and could be counted on to share her opinion on any subject. Ms. Flo was born on October 6, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio as the oldest child of Ms. Delorise C. Woody (Lucas) and Mr. Russell C. Woody. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio assisted in raising her two of her brothers Richard C. Woody and Russell C. Woody during different phases of their lives. She attended Roosevelt Junior High and West High School in Columbus Ohio. She successfully broke tradition and norms of the time as the first black female Checker Cab Driver for Yellow Cab in Columbus, Ohio. Her profession and love was driving, which took her across the Continental United States during her lifetime. She often stated that her favorite place in life was in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
She had an open heart and compassion for those youngsters who needed mental and physical support. She enjoyed family gatherings, parties and social events. As the Senior Aunt in the family her presence was felt when she entered the room. She was known to enjoy a little whiskey and an occasional cigar with her brothers. We will miss her presence and influence in life.
Ms. Flo was preceded in death by her Husband Robert Fleming Mother Delorise C Lucas, Father Russell C Woody, Brothers Richard C Woody, David Woody and son Kevin C Fleming.
She is survived by Brothers Russell (Roberta) Woody, John (Leisia) Bondurant, Sister in law Margaret (Richard) Woody, ChaCha (David) Woody, Children Melessa Woody, Ruth Mickens, Richard Mickens, and Margaret (Mickens) Young. As "Granny" she is also survived and loved by her many Grand Children, Great Grand Children, Nieces, Nephews and Bonus Children.
