Floyd Lyman Cartwright, Sr., a native of Rathbone, NY and resident of Corning, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was 87 years old.
Floyd was a delivery driver who spent most of his career working for C&K Laundry in Elmira, NY. He spent several years lovingly caring for his beloved wife Sheila as she struggled with poor health. He was a devoted Yankees fan, and country music lover. He was also a musician who wrote his own songs and could often be found playing guitar and singing at parties and at the Corning Center.
Floyd was preceded in death by: his wife Sheila (McNeil) Cartwright; his son Martin Edward Cartwright and his mother Gloria (Devitt) Earls; his parents - Martin and Ruby (Foster) Cartwright; his brothers - Clifford Cartwright and his wife Betty, and David Cartwright; his sisters - Betty (Cartwright) Case and her husband Walter, Houlda (Cartwright) Henshaw and her husband Al, Emma (Cartwright) Goodrich and her husband Jerry, and their son Eddie, and Alberta (Cartwright) Blim; and his daughter-in-law Jackie Cartwright.
He is survived by: his children – Michael James Cartwright and his wife Meloney, Robert Joseph Cartwright, Christopher Allen Cartwright, and Floyd Cartwright, Jr. and his wife Amanda (Resavage) Cartwright; his 13 grandchildren including Natalie Cartwright, Floyd Cartwright, III, and Chase John Cartwright; his sister-in-law Janice (Ham) Cartwright Brown; his close friend Eugene Kunzman; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Floyd will be privately laid to rest with his wife Sheila at Hillside Cemetery in Dundee, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Corning Center for the outstanding care they provided.
