As a classmate I must say that Floyd was an outstanding student and athlete and I enjoyed his companionship. Bill Simms Class of 52

I forgot to mention another football story and want to include a short note regarding a victory that was long over due. We were a small team in weight and numbers and the past 16 years prior to 1951 we had not been successful in defeating VES of Lynchburg. In September on their home turf we in1951 came away with a win 19 to 7. The Lynchburg Paper write up Said Floyd was a Gamecock of a quarter back and I as the teams spark plug. Boy did we celebrate. Its unusual that two young boys who entered Miller Manual Labor School the same day, who were small statue were successful in academics and sports. Floyd was An exceptional Young man and friend.

Floyd and I entered Miller Manual Labor School in the fall of 1943. He was assigned the number 61 and 62. We b both played football, Floyd as Quarterback and I as a Running back. In the three years as football players we never had a loosing season. We also were on the on the baseball team, Floyd as a pitcher and I as a center fielder. We both enjoyed sports.
As a note I spoke with Floyd a week or so before his death. He will surely be missed

Barry and family,
So very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved Dad. He is now reunited and rejoicing with the love of his life, your Mother Mildred! Always so kind to me when I would see them out and about over the years. I know you miss them but you will see them again one day. Sending hugs and lifting all of you up in prayer. May your many, many precious memories comfort you in the days ahead.
Love, Lynn Rutherford-Snow

I just saw this and had to respond. Cary & Barry, I know you remember your dad with as much love as you remember your Mom. They were the Best! I will always remember them with love, as they were the kindest, sweetest people we knew. Keep them in your hearts.
