Forrest "Barney" Barnhart, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on February 7, 2024 at Northwest Health La Porte.
Barney was born in Springfield, OH, on May 28, 1939 to Forrest Delano Barnhart Sr. and Mary (Clabaugh) Barnhart.
On May 4, 1962, in South Bend, IN, he married Judith (Martin) Barnhart who survives. Also surviving is his son, Craig Barnhart of La Porte.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Esther.
Barney spent many years working as a metallurgist for Kingsbury Castings. He also owned and operated Barnhart Automotive for over 50 years. Barney greatly enjoyed his work as a high performance, racing engine builder.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Cremation will take place following the gathering.
Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Judy Barnhart, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350 or to the donor's choice.
