Forrest C. Burns
MANCHESTER, NH: Forrest C. Burns, 90, formerly of
Mashpee, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2023, in Mount Carmel Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Manchester, NH. His wife of 35 years, Lakie F. (Woods) Burns, passed away in 1988.
Forrest was devoted to his family and enjoyed the times when we could all be together. He is survived by his children, Deborah A. Intonti of Derry, NH, and Eric L. Burns of Salida, CO; a brother, Robert C. Burns and his wife Lois of Cullman, AL; 4 grandchildren, Stephen Intonti and his wife Amanda Intonti, of Derry, NH, Adam Intonti and his wife Jenna Intonti, of
Hampstead, NH, Gregory Intonti and his wife Margaret Intonti of
Portland, ME and Monique Casallas and her husband Oscar Casallas, of
Salem, MA as well as their children, Bianca Casallas, Camila Casallas and Mateo Casallas his great grandchildren which were the joy of his life. He was predeceased by his brother Oliver E. Burns, Jr.
Forrest was born in
Ashland, Kentucky, son of the late Oliver E. and Pauline (Cyrus) Burns. He was a graduate of Ashland High School, and then graduated with a Bachelor of Chemistry degree from Berra College, Kentucky, and a master's degree in Science from the University of Kentucky. He also attended several other Universities for areas of educational concentration including the University of Glasgow in Scotland, University of Toledo, Oberlin College and Perdue. From 1958 through 1961, Forrest worked for NASA in
Sandusky, OH in which he assembled and managed a Radiochemistry Lab. There, he was an accomplished author of twenty research papers and presentations and wrote proposals for cutting-edge research. In 1961, Forrest worked as a Research Nuclear Chemist, retiring from Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center in
Watertown, MA in 1991. Forrest had many elite skills including glass blowing and was the inventor of the Topper (a siphoning funnel) to which he held a patent. He enjoyed flying; he took flying lessons and was known to fly a Benson GyroCopter.
Forrest enjoyed many other interests including reading, fishing, woodworking, kayaking and learning languages such as German and French. In the past twelve years, he enjoyed living in Mashpee where he enjoyed many friendships and acquaintances. He enjoyed birdwatching and taking walks near the ocean.
Funeral services with burial at South Cemetery in
Bolton, MA will be held privately. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water Street,
