Frances Fingerhut Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knollcrest Funeral Home on Oct. 24, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Frances "Frann" Jane Fingerhut, 95, of Oak Brook, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 7, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, Frann was the youngest of four sisters. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland before attending the University of Miami in Florida, where she fell in love with sunshine, warm weather, and sunbathing on the dorm rooftop.
After school she returned to Cleveland, met her husband Herbert Charles Fingerhut Sr. And moved to Chicago. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the sweet aroma of success through their family business, Fingerhut Bakeries. Frann's warmth and charm shone through in every customer interaction - she had a special gift for making everyone feel like family.
Frann had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life that took her around the world, but no place ever topped her favorite destination: Las Vegas. A devoted casino enthusiast, she was known to spend hours (or even days) at her favorite spots, from the Hollywood Casino to Ho-Chunk in Wisconsin Dells. She proudly accumulated enough reward points over the years to "win" many family holiday hams and turkeys - a running joke she cherished and bragged about often.
Family was the heart of Frann's world. She would go to any length to be with her children and grandchildren, and she never arrived anywhere empty-handed - a tradition she carried from her bakery days. She loved shopping (and equally loved returning things), was a woman of deep faith who never missed Mass, and insisted her grandchildren attend church with her whenever they visited.
Frann's life was defined by generosity, humor, and devotion - to her faith, her family, and the joy of living fully.
She is survived by her children Herbert Charles Fingerhut Jr., Frances (Mark) Mehalic, and Barbara (Rob) Avers; and her beloved grandchildren Adam (Melissa) Fingerhut, Tiffany (Andy) Claus, Morgan (Evin) McLaughlin, Zach Avers, Taylor (Connor) Johnstone, Bo Avers, and great grandchildren Grace and Austin Fingerhut. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Visitation Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road Lombard, Illinois. Funeral Wednesday, October 29, 2025 beginning from the funeral home with prayers at 9:00 AM, to Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York St Elmhurst, Illinois. Mass 10:00 AM. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Funeral info: knollcrest.net or (630) 932-1500.
