Frances (Fran) Jean McLallen Lopus, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in
Naples, FL at age 98. She was born on March 17, 1926, in Cambridge Springs, PA.
Fran was the daughter of Alfred and Irene Southworth McLallen. She was born in rural Erie County, PA, beginning her education in a one-room schoolhouse. After a house fire at age 10, her family relocated to Waterford, where she was raised on a dairy farm. Fran graduated from high school in 1943 and went on to attend Grove City College.
At just 15 years old, Fran met Edward Lopus. Their relationship blossomed after Ed's return from World War II, culminating in their marriage on August 20, 1949. Their marriage spanned 63 years.
Fran and Ed made Erie, PA, their home for 50 years. During this time, Fran was deeply involved in her church and community. She served in leadership roles at Lakewood United Methodist Church. She founded and served as the first President of the Presque Isle Woman's Club and served in President roles for Erie County and the State Women's Club. She also served on the Board of Directors, eventually as Board Chair, for the Westbury United Methodist Community in Meadville, PA.
As her children grew, Fran balanced her roles as a devoted mother and a dedicated professional. She worked as a District Manager for Field Enterprises (World Book) and spent a decade as a real estate broker.
Fran was actively involved in the LeBoeuf Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC). After moving to Florida, Fran served as Governor of the Naples Chapter and State Governor of the Mayflower Society. She also served in leadership roles in organizations welcoming new women to the Naples Community and loved playing Bridge.
Fran's primary joy was her family. Summer vacations, holiday gatherings, and her cherished tradition of sending a family Christmas letter for 69 years were all opportunities for Fran to pour her love into those she held dear.
She is survived by her three children: Alfred (Kathy) of Seattle, Craig (Kathy) of Orlando, and Janell of Naples; her four grandchildren: Lane Miller (Erik), Christina Walloch (Greg), Katie Ball (J.C.), and Teddy Lopus; and her three great-grandchildren: Miles and Colton Walloch, and Amelia Miller. Fran and Ed also opened their hearts and home as foster parents to Charlotte (John) Parker and Mary Phillips during their formative years.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Irene McLallen, and her husband, Edward.
In her later years, Fran became known for her attentive listening and wise advice, serving as a trusted mentor to many. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of Fran's life will be held at the Bower Chapel at Mooring Park in
