Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Feb. 25, 2025.
Francis Milton "Frank" Corry, went to heaven on Feb 24, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by his five loving children. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and physician. He was born September 16, 1934, in Lebanon, MO, to Hugh and Phyllis Corry. He was raised on the family dairy farm outside of Lebanon and attended Lebanon High School. After attending the University of Missouri, where he was a ROTC cadet and graduated with a BS in Agriculture, he joined the Air Force. There he trained as a pilot and developed a lifelong passion for flying. After leaving the Air Force, he received his medical degree from the University of Missouri, then began his General Surgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1965. It was there he met his future wife, Judith (Judy) Maier, a registered nurse in the ICU. They were married in 1968 and shared a wonderful life, celebrating 56 years of marriage. They moved to
Springfield, MO in 1970, where they settled and raised their five children. His beloved wife Judy passed away September 3, 2024 from Alzheimer's Disease, and now they are reunited forever.
As a dedicated physician, he was well known for not only asking about a patient's medical complaints but also taking time to learn about the details of their lives and families. He also enjoyed knowing about the interests and families of the nursing and surgical staff. He shared his love of his profession with his children, inspiring many of them to pursue a career in medicine. He taught this motto by example, good things come to those who work hard. He had a passion for music, playing saxophone throughout his life from high school, to the Marching Mizzou Band, then the Shriners Band, and finishing with Caduceus The Doctor's Band here in Springfield. He also combined music with his dedication to his church, singing in the church choir and the world-touring Messiah Project choir. His favorite hobby, however, was flying airplanes. He earned his instructor's rating and taught his wife and children to fly. He flew the family all over the country, traveling to almost every state. Whether on the ski slopes chasing the perfect carve, earning his Masters in Medical Administration, or discovering interior design to be involved in the remodel of his house; Frank was always seeking to expand his horizons, knowledge, and skills.
Frank is survived by his children David Corry and his wife Jill (Colorado Springs, CO); Christina Litherland and her husband David (
Springfield, MO); Ann Schaller and her husband Kent (
Springfield, MO), Janice Raley and her husband George (Colorado Springs, CO), and John Corry and his wife Jennifer (St. Louis, MO); and 14 grandchildren: Grace, Quinn, and Vivian Corry; Gavin, Garrett, and Griffin Litherland; Kylie, William, and Katelyn Schaller; Breanne and Lauren Raley; and Brandon, Ryan, and Logan Corry. Frank's brother Hugh Corry and his wife Maggie, as well as his sister Mary Worley also survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Ron Worley and his wife Judy.
