Francis Lawrence ("Larry") Moseley of Lilburn, Georgia passed away on August 22, 2025.
He was born August 15, 1938, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Francis DeWitt and Sarah Boss Moseley. Growing up, Larry lived in various towns across Georgia and Florida while his father worked as an engineer on the railroad, instilling a lifelong love of trains. In fact, Larry ended his career with Norfolk Southern.
Larry enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17, earning his high school diploma and becoming a Communication and Crypto Machine Repairman, and was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class in 1959.
Larry met the love of his life, Donna Brooks Moseley, at the Diane 29 drive-in in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he was the film projectionist and she worked at the concession stand. She brought him popcorn during intermission, and their life-long love affair of over 62 years began. Together, they raised two girls, Melinda and Lisa. They were active in church, where Larry served as a deacon at both Clairmont Baptist and First Baptist of Doraville.
Larry was very happy to be a girl dad long before that was celebrated. He took his girls to the Braves games, getting to sit in the UPI press box behind home plate to watch Hammerin' Hank hit many of his record-setting home runs. He also taught his girls how to change a tire and the importance of frequent oil changes, correct tire pressure, and a full tank of gas.
Besides trains, Larry loved country music, especially Dolly Parton, his favorite singer. He also loved old cars and could distinguish a '56 Chevy from a '57 model by the shape of the taillights. He was delighted in his three grandchildren, Adam, Samantha, and Christopher, participating in all of their sports and school activities and spending many beach and other vacations with them. He was particularly proud of his children's and grandchildren's educational accomplishments – a combined dozen degrees among them. And there aren't many who can say their Papa taught them how to play poker and blackjack.
Larry is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Melinda Moseley (Jeffrey Bowie) and Lisa Moseley Cohorst (Gary Cohorst); grandsons, Adam Cohorst (Julie Day) and Christopher Cohorst (Lacy Legaspi); and granddaughter, Samantha Bowie. He is also survived by his loving sister-in-law, Janet Angel; niece, Lynn Angel; nephew, Joseph Angel (Gwen Angel); grand-nieces, Dusty Bingham (Tim Bingham) and Tristyn Sipsy (Matt Sipsy); grand-nephew, Zachary Angel; great-grand nephew, Dalton Morrow; and great-grand nieces, Macilah and Cameron Bingham. He is pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Samuel Angel.
There will be no formal service.
