Francis Michael Murphy, 88, of Windsor, beloved husband of Marian (Joy) Murphy died peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Hartford, CT, on September 12, 1936, son of the late Timothy M. and Katherine (Keating) Murphy. Fran was a graduate of Bulkeley High School with the Class of 1956. He went on to serve our country with the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning from the service, he attended the Ward School of Electronics. Fran married his high school sweetheart, Marian Joy on September 12, 1959, and they settled in Hartford, moving to Windsor in 1970. Fran went to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford and retired as a systems analyst in 1995 after 35 years of service. A man of great faith, Fran was a parishioner of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Joseph Church in Poquonock, where he served as an usher, on the funeral ministry, as well as volunteering with many other projects. He was the retreat chairman for the Passionist Retreat Center trips, attended services in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Joseph every Wednesday, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Together with his wife, he was humbled to receive the St. Joseph Arch Diocesan Medal of Appreciation. In his retirement he worked as a professional assistant with Carmon Funeral Homes helping to serve families in the Windsor area for over 25 years. Fran was very active with youth sports in Windsor throughout the years while his children were participating and for many years after. He was past president of Windsor International Little League, a coach and director for Challenger Baseball, and was a coach and manager of the Windsor 6th Grade All-Stars Basketball team. He enjoyed bowling, traveling extensively, and was an avid golfer. Fran was also a past member and president of Civitan in Windsor and was a Shad Derby volunteer, building and driving the queen's float in the parade for many years. Fran and his wife Marian were honored as Windsor's Citizen's of the Year in June 2014. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a deep love of family, church, and community, and will be dearly missed. Along with his wife of over 65 years, Marian, he leaves his children, Michael Francis Murphy and his wife Patricia of Potomac, MD, Mary Kay Shannon and her husband Peter of Windsor, Daniel Francis Murphy and his wife Monica of Moseley, VA, and Kevin Francis Murphy and his wife Eyda of Virginia Beach, VA. He also leaves 12 grandchildren: Jennifer, Kimberly, Caitlin (Paul), Megan (Christian), Jack, Kelly, Molly, Abby, Brendan, Colin, Kasey, Kevin Jr., and 1 great grandchild, Kelson, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Ann Crowley, Mary Duffy, and Kathleen Egan. His family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 3-6 p.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2024, 10 a.m., meeting directly at St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Damien of Molokai memorial fund.
