Francis Rexing, 87, of
Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Heart to Heart Hospice after a long fought illness.
Francis was born on May 10, 1935 to the late Joe and Florence Rexing. He was full of life, laughter, and fun and believed there was always time for a good laugh with his happy-go-lucky spirit. Francis was a lifelong Cubs fan and was happy he got to see them win the world series in 2016. He went on the Honor Flight 8 in 2018 with his son, Terry. Francis felt great honor and pride to have been given the opportunity to go with 85 fellow veterans. He was interviewed by Channel 14 for the Honor Flight and he told them "I feel like I am on cloud nine." He returned home feeling like a celebrity. Francis was a veteran of the Korean War in the United States Navy Seabees Construction Engineer and Combat Battalion. He proudly flew a flag 365 days a year because he so loved his country and always said freedom doesn't come free.
Francis was a lifelong member of Resurrection Catholic Church. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 1114, Hill Top Grove, and the LST 325.
Francis is survived by his daughter, Jill Mayo of
Evansville, IN; his only granddaughter, Molly Mayo, who brought so much love into his life and he enjoyed watching spooky movies with her. Francis loved his granddaughter with his whole heart; his beloved dog, Pepper; brothers, Jim Rexing of Haubstadt, IN and Charles Rexing (Margaret) of
