Francis G. Schackmann

Francis George "Frank" Schackmann, 91, of Newton, IL passed away on Thursday January 26, 2023, at Ridgeview Nursing and Rehab in Oblong, IL.
Frank was born on May 18, 1931, at the family farm in rural Newton, IL to Edward and Mary (Miller) Schackmann. He was the 10th of 12 children.
He was a member of the NCHS class of 1950. After graduation, he then went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic. After discharge, he married Madonna Shedelbower. Frank enjoyed many things, including being a grain and livestock framer for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Ambraw Valley Boys band and they played for many events as well as on WCRA radio. His other passions were dancing, rocking in his rocking chair, visiting, hosting Sunday afternoon trail rides and entertaining friends and family at his many hootenannies.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Gerard "Jerry" and Susan Schackmann, Smyerna, TN; three daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Danny Davis, Willow Hill, IL, Patti and Steve Messman, Olney, IL and Darlene Schackmann, Mattoon, IL. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law Gene and Donna Schackmann, Newton, IL; two sisters Therese Bruemmer, Newton, IL and Rita Rasmussen, Whitewater, WI and a special friend Judy Boyd of Willow Hill. He is also the proud grandpa to several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Clarence, Ralph, Herman, Joe, Paul and Don Schackmann and sisters Charlene Gribben and Margaret Hollis.
Celebration of Frank's Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday January 30, 2023, at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in New St. Peter Cemetery, rural Jasper County. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home on Monday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to either Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Newton American Legion Post # 20.
