Frank Kenneth Bombaci, known to most as "Ken" or "Kenny" and to his grandchildren as "Pop Pop", passed away peacefully at his home in Boylston on Thursday, September 11, at the age of 72, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born and raised in Everett, MA, Ken came from humble beginnings and began working full-time at the age of 14. Through determination and hard work, he built a successful career as a mechanic with the MBTA, where he proudly served for over 30 years. Ken was known at the MBTA car house for his friendly spirit, inclination for jokes, and his willingness to assist his co-workers.
Above all else, Ken adored his family and put the needs of his loved ones above his own. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Judith, and was the proud father of Matthew (and his wife Jacqueline) and Kimberly (and her husband Luke). Ken was unwavering in his commitment to his family's happiness. He was always present and ready to help, whether through hands-on assistance or simply being there. When not supporting his family at home, Ken rarely missed an opportunity to work overtime at the MBTA to provide for his family.
Later in life, his four grandchildren – Mia, Jemma, Max, and Theo –were his pride and joy. "Pop Pop" never missed a chance to play silly games, give a hug, or cheer them on.
Ken had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, archery, and skiing with his family. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and listening to classic rock, with Bob Seger and George Thorogood among his favorite artists.
Ken will be remembered for the love he poured into everyone around him, and he will forever be appreciated for his selfless commitment to his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones - who will deeply miss him but continue to live happily, thanks in large part to his efforts.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation. An online donation can be made here: www.alz.org.
