Frank J Retych Jr. Obituary Frank J Retych Jr. age 78 passed away on July 19, 2025, in his home with his family at his side.
Frank was born to the loving parents of Frank and Mary (nee Kostrab) on February 24, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. Frank grew up in the city of Willoughby, graduating from South High School before entering the service in June of 1966.
As a veteran of the United States Army, Frank served his country with honor and integrity. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was a sharpshooter. He was stationed in Germany during Vietnam with the responsibility of auto mechanics for the military trucks and jeeps.
After being honorably discharged in 1969, Frank found his love, his 1969 Chevelle. One day while cruising, Frank crossed paths with a beauty named Karen. Who would have guessed that day he would find his real love and move forward with building a life together and having four wonderful children.
Taking a chance, Frank and Karen left city life and decided to move their family to the country. For 32 years they lived on "The Windswept Farm" in Thompson, Ohio. Days were spent raising kids, animals, and building memories that would last a lifetime. Frank enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion of hunting, fishing, cars, and numerous other hobbies with his children that would continue when the next generation of family came, his grandchildren. After all the love and laughter, they shared in the country, Frank and Karen moved back to the city and settled in Mentor on the Lake, just to change it up again.
Before retiring Frank gained experience as a drywaller, welder, being a foreman for Caterpillar, then ending his working career as a truck driver. His free time then was spent with his dog and quality time with his family and friends. Frank built a legacy that will live on through his children and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Karen, his children, Bryan (Karen), Kevin (Julie), Danielle (Tom), and Melissa and his grandchildren, Alexys (Mike), Zach (Alyssa), Miranda, Max and Kaitlyn along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Retych, his grandparents Anton and Stella Retych and Albert and Mary Kostrab.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm- 8pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave, Willoughby.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Bede the Venerable in Mentor Ohio.
Burial will be at Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Franks name to The Cleveland American Veterans Association"

Yesterday

Frank and I went to school together at Immaculate Conception and I believe South. He was the cut-up, but a true silent friend for sure. Give us a nudge Frank, we will need it.
