Frank Schmitt Obituary

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Frank Daniel Schmitt, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on August 30, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Frank led a life enriched with purpose and passion, making an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Frank dedicated over 25 years to the U.S. Postal Service in Illinois, from which he retired, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment. He was a proud veteran of the Army, serving with the 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning in Vietnam, achieving the rank of Specialist 5. His service to his country became a cornerstone of his identity, and he remained an active member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion.

Known for his vibrant personality, Frank was an engaging storyteller who could captivate anyone with his words. He wore his heart on his sleeve, showing a passion for life that resonated with those around him. Whether he was talking with a friend or a stranger, he left an impression that was memorable and lasting.

Frank's love for baseball, particularly his support for Tennessee Tech Baseball, was evident throughout his life. He shared this passion by coaching American Legion Baseball, nurturing young talent and instilling the values of teamwork and perseverance in his players.

A devoted member of Boma First Church of God in Baxter, Tennessee, Frank found connection and purpose within his faith community. He cherished the fellowship and bonds that he created at Boma, making lasting friendships that enriched his life.

Frank is survived by his sons, Jimmy Schmitt (Kathy), Sean Schmitt (Melanie), and Scott Schmitt; his brothers, Tim Schmitt (Vicky), John Schmitt, Terry Schmitt, Dan Schmitt, and Tommy Schmitt; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Brendan, and Andrew (Megan) Schmitt. These individuals were not just his family, but his pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vickie Schmitt; his loving wife, Susan Schmitt; and his brother, Kevin Schmitt. Each of these individuals played a significant role in shaping Frank's life, and he carried their memories with him throughout his journey.

Frank Schmitt will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his storytelling, and his immense capacity for love. He leaves behind a rich legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor Frank's life will be held on Saturday August 9 at Boma First Church of God, located at 10630 Old Baxter Road, Baxter, TN 38544, starting at 4:00 pm with Pastor Tim Sharp officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service.
