Frank Mitchell Smith of Newport born on November 30th, 1930, entered his heavenly home peacefully on Saturday, January 18th, 2025.
Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He led by example with his calm demeanor, humble nature, and love for Jesus.
Frank was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ for his entire life. He served multiple roles, which included Sunday school teacher, song leader, deacon, and elder at congregations in Moss, Greeneville, and most recently Newport Church of Christ.
Frank grew up in Moss, Tennessee where he received his high school education at Celina High School where he graduated as Valedictorian. He received his college education at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee and UT Memphis School of Pharmacy.
After graduating college, Frank served in the US Army stationed in Germany prior to starting his career and family. He then served the community as a pharmacist in Greeneville and Newport for over 30 years with Cole Pharmacy, Revco & CVS. He spent the majority of his time outside of work studying the Bible, hiking, and working outdoors in the yard and farm.
He is preceded in death by his father T.E. Smith, mother Maymie Etheridge Smith, first wife Bernell Head Smith, infant son Timothy Smith, daughter Dovina Smith Johnson, and son-in-law Tommy Johnson.
Frank is survived by his wife, Deane Ball Smith of Newport; son Doug Smith of Charleston, South Carolina; son-in-law Ronnie Dyke of Newport; grandchildren: Tim Johnson, Brian (Christina) Johnson, Deede (Jason) Cogdill, Jamie (Sam) Newport, and Kayla Smith; and great grandchildren: Benjamin Johnson, Lucas Johnson, and Kobe Cogdill.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1pm with the funeral service to follow at 1pm on Monday, January 20 at the Manes Funeral Home in Newport, TN. A second service will be held on Tuesday, January 21st with receiving of friends from 11am ~12 with the funeral service to follow at 12pm at Moss Church of Christ in Moss, Tennessee. The interment will follow the funeral at Moss Church of Christ Cemetery.
