Frankie Dean Thompson, age 84, of Stanford, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born at home on August 18, 1940, in the Miracle community of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Brown Lee and Connie Miracle Thompson.
Frankie was a 1959 graduate of McKinney High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He participated in the response to the Cuban Missile Crisis and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service. He was retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation and Owens Excavating. Frankie was an avid NASCAR fan, porch sitter, and collector of vintage California Raisins. He enjoyed afternoon rides through the country, especially when he could point out a bridge or road he had worked on.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joyce Sebastian Thompson; sons Brian of Stanford, and Barry (Amanda Durbin) of Lexington, and daughter Belinda (Curtis) Tygart of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren Emmalee, Aubrie, Devon, Autumn, Tommy, and Hannah, five great-grandchildren; and four nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Melvin, and a sister Helen Byrd.
A one-day service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY.
Full military honors will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the veteran's organization of your choice in honor of Frankie's service.
