Dr. Franklin Pass, a pioneer in the fields of dermatology, biotech, and medical research, passed away peacefully on April 7th at the age of 88. His distinguished career was marked by groundbreaking discoveries and a deep commitment to improving human health. Born in Duluth on August 14, 1936, Frank graduated from the University of Minnesota and U of M Medical School. Following his residency, Frank served as a Captain in the Army stationed in Tokyo during the Vietnam War. On his return, Frank joined the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where conducted cancer research. Frank moved back to Minneapolis in 1972, continuing his research at U of M while establishing a successful dermatology practice. His research led him to co-found one of the first genetic engineering companies, Molecular Genetics. Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, Frank became involved in several startups, including as CEO at Antares Pharma and founder of Martell Diagnostic Labs. Frank was a former officer of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the Board of Directors of the Walker Art Center. Frank was a cherished mentor, advisor, and friend to many. He will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, his passion for fishing, and his love for family and friends. Frank is survived by his wife, Deanie Pass, his three sons, Brian (Pascale), David, and Zachary (Maria Efstathiou), and five grandchildren, Emilie (Ethan Tucker), Camille, Pearl, Kid, and Zoe. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11 at Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, 5605 France Ave. So.
