Franklin Roger Watts, known to family and friends as Buck, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the age of 89 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born August 9, 1933 in Tappahannock, Virginia, to the late Eddie and Inez Watts. He is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Roger Watts, and his older siblings, Stanley Watts, Edward Watts and Edna Spindle.
He attended Tappahannock High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He met the love of his life, Janet Riffle, through family and friends and they were married on June 6, 1959. They built a beautiful family with four children, Mike, Kevin, Brad, and Sheri.
Always a hard worker and dedicated to his job, Buck worked as a commercial driver for Shenandoah's Pride Dairy for 32 years. He and Janet raised their family in Springfield, Virginia until they retired to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina in 2002.
He was a fan of western movies and many different sports, but he especially enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. No visit from family was complete unless it involved a lively game of dominoes, Yahtzee, or various other card games. He loved a good laugh, a good pizza from Fox's, and watching the various birds around his bird feeder. He enjoyed spending time with the many good friends he met while living in both Virginia and South Carolina, whom he also considered family.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Watts; children Mike Watts and wife Mini, Brad Watts and wife Kristen, Sheri Butler and husband Derek; grandchildren Ashley and husband Andy, Brandon, Shane, Courtney, Gavin and Jocelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Indigo Creek Golf Clubhouse.
