Fred DeJohn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes on Dec. 22, 2025.
Frederick Anthony DeJohn passed away on December 18, 2025, at Westminster Shores in St. Petersburg, Florida. Born in Tonawanda, New York, on May 19, 1933, Fred lived a life filled with love, vitality, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Fred graduated from Niagara University in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. His professional journey began at IBM and then Bethlehem Steel Corp, where he devoted 25 years of his life, demonstrating his commitment and expertise in his field. He later worked for SUNY, State University Workforce Development, contributing his work for another decade until his retirement in 1995. Despite his professional commitments, Fred's passion for helping others was evident in his many years of volunteering with Meals on Wheels and local food banks, which he committed to be on a weekly basis until he was 91 years old!

Fred's heart was filled with love for his late wife, Donna Wilson, with whom he shared a partnership of 68 years until her passing in 2022. He is also preceded in death by his son, Fred Jr., who left this world in 2011. He is survived by his children, Phyllis Vaughn (Bill), Doug DeJohn, and David DeJohn (Tracy), as well as his granddaughter, Georgianna DeJohn.

He was a man of remarkable energy and an infectious smile. Fred was a beacon of joy to all who knew him. His personality was characterized by a delightful sense of humor and a zest for life. He was passionate about tennis and pickleball, enjoyed gardening, loved golfing, and spent warm spring days swimming at the Northshore pool. Remarkably, he rode his 5-speed bicycle well into his 90's, and attended many of the senior classes at Eckerd College. Fred was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he forged meaningful connections within his community.

Fred's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and purpose. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
