Fred Vernon Wilson, 91, went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2025. He was born in Sweetwater to Buelah and Jim Wilson on Christmas Day 1933. Bro. Fred spent over 60 years of his life as a good and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Beginning his ministry at 30 years of age as a street preacher, he continued his message of "You must be saved" through countless tent revivals, in jails and prisons and the establishment of the place for the Gospel Baptist Church. Bro. Fred spent many years sending the gospel through the highways and the hedges. The Baptist Gospel Hour and Testimony Time reached countless listeners for more than 60 years. Bro. Fred had the longest radio ministry in the history of WDEH AM radio. In his last days, Bro. Fred spoke fondly of getting his new body and his arrival into the arms of his Savior. No doubt he was welcomed by "Well done, my good and faithful Servant. "
In addition to his parents, Bro. Fred is preceded in death by his wife Anna Rose Wilson. daughter Anita Dawn Wilson; brother James Denver; 3 sisters Louise, Kathleen and Jenny.
Survivors include his brother Dennis Wilson; children Debbie (Jack) Cooper, Timothy (Delisa) Wilson and Dale Wilson; grandchildren Shelly Hayes, Alisha (Brian) Thompson, Jennifer (Cameron) Culver, John Wilson, Lindsey Wilson, Megan Wilson, Hannah, Bella, and Ashlynn. He also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from noon until 2:00 PM in the Sweetwater Memory Chapel. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be held immediately after in the Sweetwater Memorial Park. Sweetwater Memory Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
